Taxes in LESCO Bill

You can check the following tax amount on your electricity bill (Bijli bill).

Fuel Price Adjustment

We all know that electricity is generated in Pakistan through hydropower and private companies known as PPIs. So, electricity-supplying companies apply fuel price adjustment charges to cover the cost of fuels for electricity generation. The amount of FPA depends on the fuel prices in the local market. If the fuel price increases, it will cost the companies a lot, and vice versa.

FC surcharges

FC surcharges, also known as “fixed charges surcharges” or “financing cost surcharges,” are added to the LESCO Bill to maintain its infrastructure, such as upgradation of grids, feeders, powerlines, transformers, and substations, and to help cover line loss.

Mostly, its amount is a factor of 0.43 paisa per unit. You can calculate it by using this formula. For example, if you have consumed 100 units, then their value will be as follows:

FC Surcharges= No. Units of Electricity * 0.43

FC Surcharges= 100 units* 0.43 = 43 rupees

General Sales TAX

The federal government of Pakistan has increased the percentage of GST from 15% to 18%, effective March 2023. It is applied to the total cost of units consumed during a month

Quarterly Adjustments of Tariff

After every three months of a financial year, LESCO adjusts the tariff under the instructions provided by NEPRA.

TV Fee

The Finance Ministry decided to collect the PTV license fee from the electricity bill. Initially, the cost was 35 rupees, but now it has been decided to increase it to 50. 15 rupees will be given to Radio Pakistan.

Electricity duty

It is a tax or levy imposed by Federal government or Regulatory authorities to raise funds for infrastructure or enhance government revenue for energy production

Check Other LESCO Bill Information and Details

The following information about the LESCO Bill is explained in detail:

PM Relief for Electricity Bill

The Prime Minister initiated a subsidy program to reduce the financial burdens of low-income households, small business owners, and industries. This relief package’s beneficiaries are commercial consumers with less than 5 kV and non-commercial consumers using less than 700 monthly units.

Domestic consumers, consuming less than 300 units of electricity, have the option of paying their bill or not. In the case of non-payment, the bill will added to the next month’s bills as an installments

Credit Bill (CR)

If you have paid the bill amount and the cost of electricity or taxes decreases, your extra amount will be considered a credit bill. It is always written as a digit with a minus sign, e.g., -5000 rupees. This amount will be deducted from your total bill for that month. For example, if your bill is 10,000 rupees and you have a credit bill of 5,000 rupees, you will only pay 5000 rupees for this month.

Deferred Amount

The amount printed on the LESCO bill is the amount that can be paid later without any immediate penalty. The reasons for this option may include the adjustment of wrong billing, government relief policies, and reducing the financial pressure on consumers.

How can I check LESCO Load shedding Schedule?

Load shedding duration varies according to your area and weather conditions, so keep updating yourself by checking the LESCO load shedding schedule daily to manage your daily routines quickly.
Mainly, load shedding occurs for the following reasons: WAPDA’s insufficient electricity generation capacity and its inadequate capacity to meet consumer demand.
Sometimes, maintenance issues are the reason behind long hours of power failure. Maintenance tasks include repairs to power plants and grid stations and installing new infrastructure.
Fuel shortages may also be another reason for this condition. Weather conditions like storms, hurricanes, and heat waves can also disrupt the power supply.
Load shedding also helps to prevent system overload. Heavy use of electricity during peak hours may overload the power station, which may cause severe damage to the structure.
