Why do unprotected consumers face higher prices?

Electricity has become a basic necessity in every walk of life. Pakistan is facing a shortage of electricity every year due to an increase in demand for electricity. Reasons include increasing population, urbanization, industries, etc.

Unprotected consumers are actually those who consume more than 200 units of electricity, and reasons for crossing this limit may include the use of some extra luxuries like fancy lights, air conditioners, and high-voltage kitchen accessories. The government decided to give relief to the consumers by reducing their usage of electricity and imposing the burden on the unprotected consumers.

Disadvantages of being an unprotected consumer

Whenever you cross the limit of 200 units in any month now, you will face higher prices for 6 months consecutively. So it is a very harsh reality, and we can explain it with an example.

Suppose Mr. A’s electricity consumption remained within the limit (below 200 units) for 5 months consecutively, and his LESCO bill was without any extra charges, but at the 6th month it reached 201 units. Now Mr. A will bear the extra charges for a 6-month duration. It is difficult for a person to be inside the protected limit.
